Blessings of the Season upon you and your family. It has been a good year. Strange, but good. Top of the list is that we helped Mom get moved in to her new home up here down the road from us. We stop in just about every day to help with things small and not so small. We are able to have family dinners and go on outings together. This is a major blessing. The down side is we are still trying to sell her home down in Florida. Two back to back hurricanes have spooked a lot of people. One day at a time.
Another major blessing has been our new Priest (Monk) at church. We attend the military parish church on Base. They have contracted with a monistary in Cleveland (who are also teachers) to provide Priests to this parish. Fr. Gerard is incredible. He must have been a very popular teacher. He is working tirelessly at community outreach. He is setting up outings and events to bring the interest of the younger, active duty members and us older retired members. Our congregation is growing because we are having fun. This past Sunday after Mass, we saw "Truce in the Forrest" (its on Youtube) about a WWI event in Belgium where a Belgium woman took in both American and German soldiers who were lost during a snow storm on Christmas Eve. They came together in peace for this holy night and left in peace to go back to their duties separately the next day. They sang Silent Night together which Fr. Gerard had us all do. Four of us were able to sing in German to help with the reenactment. It was a moving moment.
I wish you and your family a Merry Christmas and a a happy and prosperous New Year. Let me know what you are making for Christmas dinner. I had decided on ham and spatzle, but Publics has a super sale on rib roast at $5.99 a lb I couldn't turn down. It was a bit more than I wanted to spend, but a lot less than I have seen anywhere else. So, rib roast, potatoes and broccoli (yes, we are one of those families that likes the dread broccoli). The stockings are hung by the chimney with care, including a new one for Gramma Char. I managed to back one batch of peanut butter rollo cookies. I'll do better next year.
