Fun Things Going On - Insurance

Well, its been an interesting week with my mother-in-law.  Betty is doing very well on the new medicine.  No, I can't remember the name.  She has a few more days to go on it.  My sister-in-law, Annie, has a friend who acts as a Care Giver for elderly patients and has agreed to come be with Betty for a couple of afternoons a week while Annie is at work.  John got a call from his Mom this morning that her and Linda had been out at the Casinos and stopped at her sisters house.  They were going to stop for a burger and fries for dinner.  With the full blown dementia he wasn't sure what to believe.  After speaking with his brother, he found out, yes, they did in fact stop at the casino for a  while and did stop at the sister's house for a visit.  Tom managed to get them home before the burger and fries which wouldn't have gone over well with the new medicine.  The good side was Betty slept very well last night.

This has got to be so very difficult for John's brother and his wife to deal with day after day.  Please send up a prayer for them and all the other loving family members who are dealing with the very same situation in their homes.  My mom is 87 and starting to hint she would like to move in with us.  She's lonely and can't deal with the maintenance around the house anymore.  She took care of me and now it's my turn to take care of her.  Part of life.

Insurance - I have included an interesting article at the bottom of the email regarding insurance rates in Florida.  They are adding a 1% surcharge to cover losses.

Luckily we have lots of fun things going on in our area - though the casinos are a bit farther away :)

Join Dr Wayne Clough and Cumberland Island National Seashore for the next installment of our 50th Anniversary Speaker Series.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Long View: Cumberland Island and the Georgia Coast
In Commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of the Establishment of Cumberland Island as a National Seashore
Dictionaries define a coast as a boundary between an ocean and the land. You can see this notion on maps and how they are drawn. It is convenient, but not a reality. Consider seeing a scallop shell from the collections of the Smithsonian Institution said to be from the Georgia Coast. It looks like one you might have picked up yesterday on the beach at Cumberland Island, but this shell happens to be 70 million years old. The beach it might have been found on would have been located in Macon, Georgia.
Yes, this lecture is about the Georgia Coast and Cumberland Island, but it includes the idea that what we see today, what people who live after us will see, is about time, and the events that change what we call a coast or a barrier island. That a coast is a composite of an ocean with its salt waters and beach, but also the inlands behind it with rivers that bring fresh water to nourish the life there. That it provides a place where living things, literally wondrous living things, thrive. That Cumberland Island has been given to our generation to protect so future generations can see how all of this works today, but to understand, with the help of the Smithsonian and its collections, how the natural world will inevitably change it.

He received the 2020 Best Author Award for History from the Georgia Writers Association for his third book.
