Happy National Beer Day!
Fun fact: I actually have a Beer Diploma from Berlin, Germany—certifying that I “know all about beer.” I received it during a brewery tour on a Rotary trip to Berlin. While I’m not a big drinker, I usually stuck to a Radler (beer mixed with lemonade), which is light, refreshing, and surprisingly popular with millennials—although some of them prefer mixing beer with Red Bull. That’s a hard pass from me!
My husband always enjoys a Black and Tan for St. Patrick’s Day (that’s a mix of stout and lager), and my mom used to claim that when she was married with three kids under the age of three and working full-time in her father’s bakery, she’d have a beer at lunch every day to keep her energy up. With my dad working full-time and attending night school on the GI Bill, I’m sure she needed it! What’s your beer story?
On another note, as many of you know, we attend church at the military diocese chapel on base. Fr. Gerard has been making a big effort to bring active-duty members back to the church, and his outreach work has really paid off—our congregation has grown noticeably since his arrival. He’s on a four-year contract with the Navy, and we’re all hoping he’ll renew when the time comes. He’s made a wonderful impact.
For those who’ve asked about my mom—thank you! I’m happy to report she’s doing great. She’s met one of her neighbors and is now driving herself to Publix, Walmart, and the hairdresser (Barbara at Ritual Beauty downtown). That’s a very encouraging sign of her independence returning. Now, we just need to get her Florida home sold. The market there is a bit sluggish right now with high inventory, but we’re hopeful things will pick up as interest rates start to come down. Your prayers are very much appreciated.

Northeast Florida Fair - Callahan, FL
In a heartwarming display of unity and remembrance, the Town of Hilliard, Florida and VFW Post 10095, have joined forces to bring a significant piece of history to Nassau County. The Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall, a poignant tribute to the sacrifices made during the Vietnam War, will be making its way to the Northeast Florida Fairgrounds in Callahan from April 17th to April 21st, 2025.
This collaborative effort, aptly named "Vietnam Voices," embodies the spirit of community and honor. Recognizing that not everyone can travel to Washington, D.C. to pay their respects at the original Vietnam Memorial Wall, the organizers have taken it upon themselves to ensure that the opportunity for reflection and remembrance is brought closer to home.
The Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall, a three-fifths scale model of the iconic monument in the nation's capital, stretches approximately 300 feet, serving as a solemn reminder of the more than 58,000 men and women who lost their lives during the Vietnam War. Its presence in Nassau County will provide locals with a unique opportunity to honor and remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
