We went to the JAX Home and Patio show this weekend. It was free for Veterans and $5 for seniors on Friday. Of course, mom came along and had a great time. It was well attended and had some very interesting vendors this year. John fell in love with a floor sample sale of outside kitchens with bar stools. We were tempted. This is the year we are pushing to pay off our mortgage. With the economy the way it is, we both have been pushing hard to pay down this debt. Once it is out of the way we can focus on other home improvements - like the back yard. This weekend we all did our bit toward end of winter clean up. It always feels backwards to me that we do more raking in the spring than in the autumn. So several Lowe's yard waste bags later... Feeding the palm trees and azalea bushes, trimming, edging sweeping - all the fun activities. The weather was perfect for it. Once the pine trees have stopped blooming and the pollen settles, then the real fun begins. Window washing. One has to have something to look forward to.
Now James has been having fun on the weekends with his chess tournaments. Now that we are not driving back and forth to Florida every couple of months, he is back on the chess circuit. He is working with some other people to start a group up here in St Marys. They had their first tournament a few weeks back. It was a modest success, but needs some tweeking on format. The gentleman who runs the shop is not a morning person and the start time was not what they had hoped for (or needed). It ran a bit late as a result. Next round should go smoother. They are meeting on Wednesday evenings and the occasional Sunday for games. If you would like more information, just let me know and I'll pass it along for someone to get back to you.
