As Easter approaches, it's hard to believe how quickly the year is flying by. We've enjoyed a number of wonderful activities recently through Fr. Gerard’s community outreach efforts. He continues to focus on reconnecting with active-duty military members and encouraging them to return to the Church. This Friday at 6:30pm, there’s a casual event at Wee Pub (Theology on Tap) that should be a great opportunity for fellowship and fun. Fr. Gerard also has a visiting monk from his home monastery in Lakewood, Ohio (where John and I were married), which has added a special touch to recent gatherings. It’s been inspiring to see our church community growing week by week.
Mom has been tackling her backyard with determination. It had become a bit overgrown, but James and John stepped in with a chainsaw—and took out a few bushes in the process! There have also been some unexpected consequences from the new Esplanade development nearby. As often happens when large areas of trees are cleared, the local wildlife—armadillos, squirrels, birds, even snakes—have relocated to neighboring properties. Thankfully, Mom isn’t on the construction side, but she’s still dealing with a daily layer of dust on her porch and screens. It’s temporary, but definitely a nuisance.
On a lighter note, she recently installed a bird feeder, which has become a source of daily entertainment. She cleverly suspended it with an elastic cord and secured the lid shut. A few determined squirrels have been trying all kinds of acrobatics to get at the seed—climbing upside down, shimmying along the elastic cord, and swinging back and forth to shake seeds loose. I really should get a video—it's quite the show!
