Fun Things Going on - Berries to Pick

Well, at least we had a few minutes worth of rain this week.  Hope we get lucky again this week.  I haven't had to use my sprinklers this much in ages.  We had the great annual Peanut Butter and Jelly competition to stuff the food pantry for the summer.  BHHS came in a close second with 5,017 oz donated.  The entire Camden County Board of Realtor's donated just over 1200 lbs. of peanut butter and jelly to the local food pantry.  It is a wonderful thing to help support your own community.

Now time for a little fun:

We will be open today after 3pm for squash, green beans and a few blackberries.

Southern Fried Funeral by St. Marys Little Theatre

southern fried funeral

Southern Fried Funeral is a wonderfully witty play that is fairly redolent of magnolia blossoms and a pot liquor seasoned by family rivalries and long-held regrets and recriminations.

In short, it's just like walking into your mama's house again (if you're southern), the memories washing over you like so much Delta-borne humidity, to pick up a tall glass all sweaty from the melting ice inside the sweetened tea.

If you were not born in the south by the grace of God, you will find this rollicking show proving that the south (just as you thought) is different--funny different. Very funny-different! Laughter throughout.

Kay Westberry will lead a tour of historic Oak Grove Cemetery on Saturday, May 21 at 9:30 a.m.

Majestic Oak Grove Cemetery has been an intriguing location since it was created and laid out as part of St. Marys in 1787-88.

About 29 soldiers of the American Revolution, as well as soldiers from all wars fought by our country, lie in peaceful repose under the beautiful live oaks that shade their rest. The city’s ties with the ocean and rivers is obvious from the markers in honor of captains, seamen and fishermen.

Preventative home maintenance in a jiffy.
Header2
Most of us know that regularly changing your car’s oil is the key to keeping it running for the long haul. The same theory applies to homes – a little preventative maintenance will save you down the line. Here are four quick and easy tasks that prevent costly repairs...

1. Declutter your gutters. Preventing build-up in your gutters is key to getting water away from the foundation of your home. Cleaning before winter also prevents ice build-up that can cause extensive damage.

2. Inspect hardscapes. Snow, rain and freezing temperatures can be tough on concrete, asphalt and other hardscapes. Look for cracks where water, weeds and insects can get through. Small cracks can often be sealed with a pre-mixed patch, but call a professional if you find more significant gaps or shifting of concrete.

3. Let the laundry room breathe. Vacuuming out dryer vents and air ducts helps maximize efficiency and prevents the build-up of flammable lint.

4. Clear your drains. Pouring a cup of baking soda, followed by ½ a cup of vinegar, down your drain and then flushing with hot water will prevent clogs.
Whether it’s buying for the first time, moving up, or moving on - if you’re looking for a new way home, I can help.
